Thanks to Good Food I was lucky enough to gain a place in the Per-Anders Jorgensen food photography master class!
Just under 400 people entered, and I was so thrilled to win - thankyou, Good Food!
The successful photo was a 'portrait' of one of my mother’s chickens ('Goldie'); I always knew she was special, when she was born I would feed her by hand because she was smaller and weaker than the others. Now she's blossomed into a stunning golden chicken with great markings and a very interesting personality!
The master class was held at one of my favourite places, The Essential Ingredient in Prahran as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. P-A is one of the best photographers in the world right now, and is also the co-editor of FOOL Magazine, a must-read food and drink magazine which won the Gourmand Book Award for Best Food Magazine of 2012.
FOOL Magazine was created by the husband and wife team of art director/editor Lotta Jorgensen and photographer/co-editor Per-Anders Jorgenson. FOOL is published quarterly in Sweden, with a global writer and photographer contributor list.
During the master class, P-A invited everyone to photograph the beautiful lunch which The Essential Ingredient had provided.
Off I trotted through the store with my plate of food (that I had randomly styled), my camera and a smile. I stepped outside to use the natural light to take a few snaps - I got a few funny looks from passers-by, but that doesn't worry me! I knew the courtyard would be too bright and I had no diffuser. So I went into the dark car park and used the stairs and entrance that lead into that dark car park - a great natural diffuser!
